Moving Students from the Wait List to New Section


In this tutorial, you will learn how to move students from the wait list into a new class section.


  1. Click Manage Student Records.

  2. Click Waitlist Find Best Mtg Pattern

  3. Step 1: Find best meeting pattern:


    If a department would like to look at class schedule availability for students on the waitlist for a course they can search via a Find Best Meeting Pattern screen.  Enter course information and click the Search button.

  4. All class sections will appear and list the number of students on the wait list by section.

  5. Chairs can type in meeting patterns for which they would like to view the student's  availability.


    Click the Submit button.

  6. All students on the wait list for a section of the course who do not have a class conflict at that time will be listed.

  7. Step 2: Gauge interest:


    If interested chairs can email students on the waitlist using the Notify feature on the class roster to gauge interest in enrolling into an alternative section of the class.

  8. Step 3: Setup the New Course Section:


    If another course section is able to be offered, it can get added to the schedule. Set the course up to require department consent to enroll- this will give waitlisted students priority registration into the new section.

  9. Step 4: Assign Permission:


    Assign waitlisted students permission to enroll into the new section.


    Use the new Create Permission from Wait List functionality to mass assign department consent permission to students on the waitlist.

  12. This page lists all the sections of the course and the number of students enrolled onto the waitlist in each section.


    • Select the sections you’d like to pull the student list from.

    • Enter the ‘new section’ that you would like to give them permission to enroll in.

    • Select the type of permission you’d like to grant them (typically Consent Required)

    • Set a permission expiration date


    Click the Create Permissions button.

  13. Step 5: Students are Notified:


    The system will automatically email each student who was just assigned permission, instructing them on how to register for the course.


    Step 6: 


    If the department would like, after giving the waitlisted students an opportunity to enroll, they can remove the department consent requirements and open the class up to other students.


    Click the myWCU logo to return HOME.
