Combining Sections

In this topic, you will learn how to Combine Sections for a Class.


Steps:

  1. Click the Combined Sections Table link.

    Step 1
  2. Enter the Term.  In this example we'll use Fall, 2012 (2125).

  3. Click the Search button.

  4. Click the + key and enter the class in the empty field.

  5. Enter the Course Description.   In this example, we'll enter Fundamentals of CSC.

  6. Enter a Short Description (Subject Area and Catalog Number).   It is recommended that you enter both courses / sections you are combining.   For example, CSC 100/CSC 110. 

     

    In this example, we will combine two sections of the same course.  Enter CSC 110 02/03.

  7. Click the Save button.

  8. Click the View Combined Sections link for the class you just added.

  9. Click the box for Permanent Combination only if you want the class to roll to the next term as a combined course.

  10. Click the Skip Mtg Pattern & Instr Edit box.

  11. Select Combination Type as appropriate. 

     

    Choices:  Within Subject or Cross Subject (different departments).

  12. In this example, we'll select Within Subject.

  13. Important:   Set the Enrollment Capacity and Room Capacity to accommodate all combined sections of this course.  

     

    In this example, we'll enter "50".

  14. Set the Enrollment Capacity to "50".

  15. Click the + key to add a section.

  16. Enter the Class Number for the section you wish to combine.  - OR - Click the magnifying glass to search and select the class. 

     

    In this example, we'll enter 6852.

  17. Enter the Class Number for the section you wish to combine. 

     

    In this example, we'll enter 6854.

  18. Click Save.

  19. If you build a class with a combined section, the combined section link will show on the Meetings page.

     

    Click the myWCU logo to return home.

  20. Click the Maintain Class Sections link.
