Formatting Numbers in a List

In this topic, you will learn how to apply different number formats in Excel 2010.


  1. By applying different number formats, you can display numbers as percentages, dates, currency, and so on. 


    Select the cells you want to format.

  2. Click the Home tab.

  3. In the Number group, click the dialog box launcher.

  4. In the Category list, click the format that you want to use,  and then adjust the settings. 


    In this example, select Currency.

  5. Adjust the number of decimal places,alignment, font, etc. if necessary.


    Click the OK button.

  6. You can use the icons to Increase Decimal places.

  7. Click to Decrease Decimal places.

  8. You can format a column prior to entering data.

  10. Select the format you wish to use.   In this example, click Short Date.

    Press [Enter].
