Error Alert Tab


In this topic, we will look at the Error Alert Tab.

 

This will allow a message to appear when invalid data is entered.


Steps:

  1. From the Data Tab, click the Data Validation drop down menu.

  2. Click  Data Validation

  3. Click the Error Alert tab.

  4. Select your Style:

     

    Click the Style: drop down menu.

  5. Stop - allows the user to select Retry or Cancel.

  6. Warning - allows the user to click Yes to accept the invalid entry; No to edit the invalid entry; or Cancel to remove the invalid entry.

  7. Information -  This is the most flexible alert.  This allows the user to click OK to accept the invalid value or Cancel to reject it.

  8. In this example, we'll use Stop.

     

    Click the Stop list item.

  9. Click in the Title: field.

  10. Enter a title for your error message.  In this example, we'll enter Error.

  11. Click in the Error message: field.

  12. Type the error message you want to appear when invalid data is entered.  In this example, enter "The only allowable value is a two-character State abbreviation."

  13. Click the OK button.

  14. Enter the State.   In this example, enter California.

  15. Press [Enter].

  16. Note the Error Alert.

     

     

    Click the Retry button.

  17. Enter the abbreviation for California.   In this example, enter CA.
