Creating Left Outer Joins


Concept


Steps:

  1. Begin by navigating to the Records page.

     

    Click the Reporting Tools link.

  3. In this example, you will search for the PT_MSG_PUBTO_NODES query.

     

    Enter the desired information into the begins with field. Enter

     a valid value
     e.g.
     "pt_msg"
    .

  5. Click an entry in the Edit column.

  6. Click the Records tab.

  7. Use the Records page to select the records on which to base the new query.

  10. In this example, you will search for the Message Catalog record.

     

    Enter the desired information into the begins with field. Enter

     a valid value
     e.g.
     "message"

    Click an entry in the Join Record column.

  13. Use the Select join type page to define the type of join. The available options are Standard Join and Left Outer join.

  15. On this page, note that:

    •  If the Enable Auto Join preference is selected in the Query Preference page, select the record name to join with.

    •   If the Enable Auto Join preference is not selected in the Query Preference page, click the OK button.

  16. When you select the Left outer join option, you must select the last record that you've previously added to the query.

     

    If you attempt to join to records other than the last record, an error message appears.

     

    Click the Message Catalog Lang View link.

  17. Use the Auto Join Criteria page to define the join criteria:

    •   If the Enable Auto Join preference is selected, this page appears.

    •   If the Enable Auto Join preference is not selected, this page does not appear.

  18. You can clear the criteria from the query.

  19. You can also click the Add Criteria button to add or edit criteria or conditions (2–3 tier client only).

     

    If no common keys are between the two join records, a message will appear instead of the Add Criteria page.

  20. In this example, deselect the Message Set Number field.

     

    Click the Message Set Number option.

  22. Use the Query page to add fields to the query content.

     

    You can also use this page to add additional records by performing joins.
