Understanding Selection Criteria

  1. This diagram shows an example of applying criteria to a query:

    •  A sporting goods company has four regional manufacturing sites: northern, southern, eastern, and western.

    •  You are the manager of the southern site, and you want to view only the products that you manufacture at this location.

    Step 1
  2. Currently, you use a Product query to generate a Product Report that displays all of the products that the company manufactures.

This is much more data than you want or need.

    Step 2
  3. You select which rows of data you want by adding selection criteria to the query.

You add selection criteria to the existing Product query to retrieve only rows of data where the manufacturing location field contains the values for south, as shown in the Product Report for Southern.

    Step 3

You have successfully reviewed the purpose of applying criteria to a query.
