Working with the Related Workspaces Pagelet

Concept

Steps:

  1. Begin by navigating to the Course Details page.

In this example, the Course Details page is the target page that has the Related Workspaces pagelet associated with it.

    Click the Courses link.

    Step 1
  2. Click the Course Definition link.

    Step 2
  3. Click the vertical scrollbar.

    Step 3
  4. The Related Workspaces pagelet is used to associate collaborative workspaces with a specified menu item—in this example, relating workspaces with the Course Details page. If you are a portal administrator, the View All Workspaces link and Create Workspace link appear as below. For other users, only the View All Workspaces link appears.

In this example, as the portal administrator, you will create a new related workspace for the Course Details page. Then, you will return as a member of the workspace to access the workspace from the page and vice versa.

    Step 4
  5. Click the Create Workspace link.

    Step 5
  6. Use the Select A Workspace Template page to select the template on which you want to base your collaborative workspace.

A recommended template—one that was associated with the transaction page when the template was created—is selected by default. This default can be overridden.

    Step 6
  7. In this example, you will use the recommended template that was selected by default.

    Click the Next > button.

    Step 7
  8. If the workspace template that you are creating the collaborative workspace from contains contextual data, you can use this page to relate the workspace to specific data about a transaction. This relationship helps categorize your collaborative workspace and provides relevant contextual information.

    Step 8
  9. You will not create any contextual relationship at this time.

    Click the Next button.

    Step 9
  10. Use the Name and Describe Workspace page to enter a name, description, and category to help identify your collaborative workspace.

    Step 10
  11. Enter the desired information into the Name field. Enter

     a valid value
     e.g.
     "Courses Workspace"
    .

    Step 11
  12. Click in the Description field.

    Step 12
  13. Enter the desired information into the Description field. Enter

     a valid value
     e.g.
     "For course developers and instructors."
    .

    Step 13
  14. Click the Search Categories button.

    Step 14
  15. Use the Select Category page to select a category for the collaborative workspace.

    Step 15
  16. Click the Departments button.

    Step 16
  17. Click the [Training] link.

    Step 17
  18. Click the Next button.

    Step 18
  19. Use the Select Workspace Modules page to select the modules that you want to include in your collaborative workspace.

    Step 19
  20. You will accept the default modules at this time.

    Click the Next button.

    Step 20
  21. Use the Add Members page to select and invite members to participate in your collaborative workspace.

The portal administrator who created the workspace has been added automatically as the workspace owner.

    Step 21
  22. You will not add any other members at this time.

    Click the Finish button.

    Step 22
  23. A collaborative workspace is a virtual team room.  The collaborative workspace welcome page displays all of the modules configured by the owner or administrator of the workspace.

    Step 23
  24. As a member of the workspace, you will now return to the transaction page to access the workspace, and then you will access the transaction page from the workspace.

    Click the Portal Home link.

    Step 24
  25. Click the Courses link.

    Step 25
  26. Click the Course Definition link.

    Step 26
  27. Click the vertical scrollbar.

    Step 27

    Step 28
  29. Click the Courses Workspace link.

    Step 29

Notice that the workspace has been updated to include a return link to the Course Definition page on the left and a related link to Course Definition on the right.

Note. The Course Definition page is the same as the Course Details page. The collaborative workspace has used the page's label from the portal registry, and not the name as it appears on the page.

    Step 30
  31. Click the Return to Course Definition link.

    Step 31

You have completed working with the Related Workspaces pagelet.
