Understanding Community Calendars

Concept

Steps:

  1. Understanding Community Calendars

Community calendars provide a way for groups to share, organize, and communicate about events that pertain to their organization or group. Calendar membership can be assigned by user or by role. Calendar privileges include the ability to view the calendar (viewer), create and edit events (contributor), and administer the calendar (administrator). Members can view calendars and events online in pagelets or in the full-page view accessible from the pagelets or through menu navigation.

Community calendars can be accessed from portals, sites, and collaborative workspaces.

The following example shows a full-page community calendar in a monthly view:

    Step 1
  2. Community Calendar Pagelets

The custom pagelets that you publish directly from a community calendar can be created to meet the needs of your project or department. These pagelets can be published to sites and portals. Access to the calendar pagelet is based on calendar membership.

Community calendar pagelets can also be published from the Pagelet Wizard using the Community Calendars data type.

The following example shows a community calendar pagelet in a seven days looking forward view:

    Step 2
  3. My Events Pagelet

The My Events pagelet is a delivered homepage pagelet that shows all of the events a user has access to across portals, sites, and workspaces (if personalized to do so). You can personalize the appearance of this pagelet to show a daily or a seven days looking forward view and to select one or more calendars you want to retrieve events from and display in the pagelet.

The following example shows the My Events pagelet with a seven days looking forward view:

    Step 3
  4. Community Calendars in Collaborative Workspaces

Community calendars appear as upcoming events in collaborative workspaces if calendars have been enabled in step 4 (the Select Workspace Modules page) of the Workspace Wizard or if they have been selected on the workspace Modules page. A consolidated list of all action items that are associated with the collaborative workspace appears in the pagelet. To view the full calendar, click the View All Events link and the system displays the workspace calendar. The workspace calendar is also available from the Calendar menu item in the collaborative workspace.

The example shows the Upcoming Events pagelet from a collaborative workspace.

    Step 4

In summary, community calendars provide a way for groups to share, organize, and communicate about events that pertain to their organization or group.
